For several centuries, there are hundreds of famous organizations and people recognized for their valiant efforts, contributions and deeds. They come in different gender, age and nationality. This goes to show that humans are tremendously flexible, creative and wonderful beings.
Especially in Theology, there are plenty of people who are recognized for many important things. One of the people who have made a good impression to the Bishop of the Church of God is Bishop Charles Harrison Mason. He was the founder and such Church was then developed into what we know these days as the biggest Pentecostal church. Despite the lack of formal education, his greatest influence in religion was his parents. Born by the former slaves in Tennessee, he encountered several hardship. At age fifteen, he joined a Missionary and eventually receive baptism by his older brother. Although Mason opposed pursuing ministry because he only wished to stay as a clergyman, he still continued to be one.
On 1880, an epidemic spread through his hometown and greatly affect many people including Jerry, his father. Since the hospitals and treatment centers during that period were in low maintenance and condition, Jerry died from the ailment forcing the other members to go to the Arkansas. Even if Charles contracted the illness, he was miraculously cured due to dedicated prayers that were offered by his siblings and mother.
In some of his journeys, he had gone through numerous things which make him experienced conversion. One of his greatest motivators is Amanda Berry Smith who is, at that time, a popular African Methodist. Just like other individuals who received greater sanctification, he claimed to be inspired. Eventually, he met many professionals who have helped him throughout his preaching journeys.
Of course, he had a lot of journeys through different local and foreign lands that allow him to preach. He was not only exclusive on a single church alone. Due to his experiences, he decided to teach a lot of individuals in various communities and Colleges. In the year 1926, Mason organized an institution that highlight the important regulations and rules of the church.
He also experienced a married and happy life. Around 1890, he married one of his mothers closest friends daughter named Alice Saxton. But after two years, they got divorced because Saxton were unsatisfied with the life he had chosen. Even though he decided not to remarry, he had another wife whom he met one year after Saxton died. Eventually, the second wife died, and then he also married his last wife.
By the time of his death around 1961, the institution he manged spread throughout many places, including foreign nations. Eventually, the members and the churches grow in numbers. In the twenty first century, the group is now considered as the largest one in the US.
