Landing Page Optimization Strategies

By Olivia Reed

Thanks to Google's change of policies, landing pages are being used more often than the traditional squeeze pages. If you're looking out for ways to get the most out of your current landing page or simply want to create one that actually converts, then the following article is for you.

Actually, your page headline has an awesome job to get done, and with no success there the whole thing falls apart. First of all you need visitors, and once they read your headline they will either continue reading or keep on surfing. So when you're creating your headline, don't be afraid to try out a few until you find the best one. Any person who reads it should know what the landing page is about and what the major benefit will be. So then we come to the matter of what you think your best benefit is, or perhaps the USP which is unique selling proposition. In addition, the headline lets people know what the copy is all about, and that serves to weed out anyone not interested or not targeted properly. So it is your headline that has the big job of bringing the fish in, but you make it happen with your headline.

Your landing page can't be made up of large blocks of text; you should keep it clean with lots of white space and the use of short paragraphs. If you're going to use big paragraphs then you'll lose the interest of your visitors and fail to take them towards the call to action. Give your visitors an easy experience on your page and make it simple for them to read your copy and understand it. What people will tend to do is scan your text, and short copy (and paragraphs) help them to do that.

The question of using a photo of you on the landing page is something you should test. The very best thing to do in this instance is set-up a simple A/B split test and see which page gets the most conversions. You could spend several months just testing out every possibility, and that is how you can really optimize your conversion rates. You realize that your page must be credible and everything has to point to that plus your good offering.

Always make sure of the quality of your traffic, and then you will be set to make serious progress with testing and optimizing your landing pages.
