It Can Be Simple To Write Short Articles!

By Dana McLean

Short article writing is as not as difficult as you think. If you know exactly what you are supposed to do, it is not hard at all. Remember the key to successful article writing -- catching the attention of your readers in any way, shape or form. You must make them want to read what you wrote. Take note of the following tips when writing your article, and we promise you this will not be too long -- short, in fact.

You and Your Readers

Grab you reader's attention. Think of making your readers pay attention the very moment they see your article, and it would all start with the title. It is a much-overlooked art form, that process of writing titles that scream "LOOK AT ME!" It must have pizzazz and it must sizzle by itself. Your goal when creating a title should be to enrapture your readers to a near zombie-like trance of undivided attention. You should not be afraid at all to be outrageous in your choice of words, as evidenced by the last sentence. Your introductory words or paragraph must tell your readers how reading your article will help them out or improve them. Write your article in such a way that you keep florid passages to a minimum; you want to write an article that is interesting, easy-going and amiable. So what else can be done to make an article light and relaxed? Use bullets, headings, sub-headings, numbered lists, and steps.

Talk to your reader. Think of what your purpose is in writing the article and fine-tune your writing specific to what your target audience wants. Make sure that your articles will be understood by varied audience regardless of their age, educational background or race. Connect to your reader as a friend, giving him an advice. Write as if you were giving advice rather than lecturing the readers.

You and Your Topics

Outline them. You can write those articles faster if you have an outline prepared in advance. Determine the number of paragraphs you would like your article to have, your outline headings and sub points for each heading. There must be no disparity between the outline headings and the main topic of your article, instead they should be congruent to the main topic. Also make sure that the sub-points are related to the main talking points and the main heading of the article itself -- consistency is the key.

Take note that your article should be concise, informative and interesting. Refrain from writing protracted paragraphs that are in essence as long as an average article. Keep it short and readable. Citing examples is well and good, but again, stick to the spirit of brevity. It is also important to write simple sentences and use words that are understandable to almost any reader. Use simple English. Save the big words and technical jargon for moments when usage of such words would be necessary. Use "action" words that enable a person to do something instead of sitting there. Speak in the active voice. This increases your odds of making a positive initial impact. Do not include unnecessary or excessive words.

Give your article some 'meat.' Your article must be practical and valuable. You must do your research to make sure that your article will come out like you really know what you are talking about. Do not resort to use of extended quotes, idioms, stories and anecdotes, and if it is necessary to give an example, make it brief. With such an approach, you are making your article understandable while simultaneously making your readers feel as if they are connecting emotionally. Finally, readers do not simply want information, they want it summarized with pith and substance. This would give them a definitive connection with you as the writer.
