By Mayra Roman

Pat Lawrence, a pseudonym used by the couple writers Pat Adsit and Daniel Lawrence Burke, is now ringing a bell in the novel making industry. After creating murder mysteries in 2007 and the comedy play entitled Squirrels In The Attic, their latest work Jarred Into Being is now placed under the limelight.

The novel was released under the publishing expertise of Outskirts Press in August 2011, already carrying the pseudonym Pat Lawrence. The novel is a story of a strong willed protagonist named Eva Lange who, after being orphaned, went through a depressing yet awakening stage of her life.

After losing her parents from a disastrous car accident at 13 years old, Eva struggled for her own survival. Owing to her physical gifts which she considered a curse as well, she had to escape the hands of her aunt's abuser only to be preyed upon by a murderous drug lord who is engaged in sexual games.

Using her sexuality, beauty and wits, the protagonist struggled for ten years in order to achieve the freedom she had always wanted and to save the man she loves. This suspense filled story revolves around the strength of Lange to emerge victorious against not only her physical abusers but also corruption in the society.

The novel indeed has a dark theme, suitable to become an eye opener for some people who may not be aware of issues such as forced prostitution, sexual slavery and human trafficking. The author flawlessly describes the gravity of these situations by entertaining readers as well.

Just as what Pat Lawrence had wanted, many readers have been hooked to the enthralling life of Eva Lange. By weaving all the events carefully, using their personal knowledge on things like drug cartels and political corruption, the novel came out to be something that you just cannot put down.

Undoubtedly, Jarred Into Being is something worth spending your spare time for. More than just a source of entertainment, the novel is a good social awakening for us citizens to act against sexual crimes and abuses in our community. Moreover, it teaches us to admire the strength of women even more amidst the difficulties they face.
